Five Years Later

September 11, 2006

Satchel is 15 mos old and is walking, talking, signing and singing! He is my greatest joy. The kitchen renovation is almost finished, minor mishap notwithstanding.

We will be driving downstate to visit family on Long Island for the thanksgiving holiday and will make time to see our friends back home in NYC. It will always be "home" to me even though I no longer want to live there.

I still get a bit unnerved on this day, but I'm less affected emotionally now that we're upstate. I still avoid watching the news because all the violence upsets me. I've been having the usual 9/11 related nightmares...dreams involving low flying planes a/o plane crashes. I also continue to have little patience for ignorance and bullsh-t. Before 9/11, I was able to put up with a lot of crap (perhaps not such a good trait), but now I have no tolerance. I can't stand to be around negative people. I'm much more cautious about whom I spend time with...whom I befriend.

A recent report regarding the WTC disaster suggests that residents and workers exposed to WTC debris continue to have symptoms, both psychological and physical, i.e. respiratory illness some 5 years later. It also suggests that people who were exposed to the air dowtown 6 months after 9/11 have reported illnesses.

Someone recently asked me if I plan to see "the new 9/11 movie"...I didn't quite know how to respond, but said, "No thanks...I've already seen it...I was there".
